Advanced Coaching Pathway: Career Transition and Change
Career transition and change can be one of the most important areas of a person's working life. This pathway gives you the practical tools and confidence to support clients well, whatever their career situation.
This is one of TPC Coaching Academy's Advanced Coaching Pathways, two-day programmes designed for coaches who have completed a practitioner-level qualification and want to go further in a specialist area of practice. Each pathway gives you access to tried and tested tools, evidence-informed approaches, and real-world techniques used by experienced coaches.
Career coaching draws on a distinct set of frameworks and skills. Understanding how people relate to their work, how identity shapes career decisions, and how to support someone through change they did not choose requires specific knowledge and practice. This pathway develops all of that, grounded in the core principles of professional coaching you already hold.

What the pathway covers
Over two days you work through the key areas of career transition coaching, applying tools and approaches to real coaching situations from your own practice context. The programme is led by experienced coaches who bring both the frameworks and the practical wisdom of working in this area at depth.
-
Supporting clients through career transition, career change and career development
Learn how career transition coaching works and what it requires of you as a coach. Understand the different types of career change clients face, voluntary moves, redundancy, role transition, loss of direction. Learn how to adapt your approach to each. Leave with a clear framework for entering and holding career coaching conversations with confidence.
-
Helping clients clarify goals, strengths and values
Develop practical tools to help clients understand what they want, what they are good at, and what matters to them. Learn how to use strengths-based and values-clarification approaches within a coaching context, and how to help clients connect that self-knowledge to their decisions about the future.
-
Working with different career situations
Build your ability to work across the full range of career situations coaches encounter, chosen change, unchosen change, redundancy, return to work, promotion, portfolio careers, and limited-choice situations. Understand what each situation asks of the coach and the client, and how to calibrate your support accordingly.
-
Helping clients explore options and make decisions
Learn techniques for helping clients generate meaningful options, assess possibilities with clarity, and make confident, well-grounded decisions about their direction. Develop your ability to hold the tension between exploration and action without closing down too early or drifting without purpose.
-
Working with common career roadblocks
Develop approaches for the most common barriers that arise in career coaching: self-doubt, identity disruption, fear of change, low confidence, and motivational stalls. Understand the psychological dynamics behind these blocks and learn how to work with them skilfully rather than around them.
-
Building resilience and a more sustainable career path
Learn how to help clients build the resilience and self-worth needed to navigate ongoing change and uncertainty. Understand what makes a career path sustainable rather than simply successful, and how to support clients in building a relationship with their work that serves them over time.
You will leave with
