TPC Coaching Academy

Executive Coaching

Executive coaching requires more than strong coaching skills. It requires the credibility, presence, and depth to work with leaders at the highest levels of an organisation. TPC Leadership has been developing that capability for 30 years.

This page serves two audiences. Senior leaders who want executive coaching as part of their professional development. And coaches who want to develop the specialist skills to work with senior and very senior leaders. Both are at the right place.

For senior leaders

You are looking for a coach who can match your level of experience, hold genuine challenge alongside support, and help you think clearly about the things that matter most at the top of an organisation.

TPC Leadership's faculty brings the credibility, accreditation, and depth of experience that senior leaders need from a coaching relationship. Talk to us about your requirements or book a call with the team.

For coaches

You want to develop the skills, presence, and credibility to work with senior and very senior leaders. The work is distinct from general coaching and requires specific development.

TPC Coaching Academy offers both the professional foundation qualification and the specialist advanced pathway for coaches working at executive level. Explore the courses or read on for the full picture.

What executive coaching involves

Coaching at the highest level

Executive coaching is a one-to-one professional development process that works with how a senior leader thinks, decides, and shows up, not just what they deliver. It focuses on the patterns of thinking and behaviour that determine leadership effectiveness at the top of organisations, where the stakes are high, the complexity is systemic, and the demands on presence and judgement are most acute.

Effective executive coaching addresses the challenges that are hardest to develop through training alone: the quality of a leader's thinking under pressure, how they are perceived and what they do about it, how they navigate competing stakeholder interests, how they sustain their effectiveness over time. These are the questions that a skilled executive coach holds space for.

Presence and impact
How the leader shows up , the gap between intended and actual impact, and how to close it. Senior leaders often have a blind spot here that other forms of development do not address.
Strategic thinking
Supporting leaders to think at the level their role requires. Holding complexity without collapsing it. Making consequential decisions with incomplete information and genuine confidence.
Influence and relationships
Leading across organisational complexity without direct authority. Bringing boards, peers, and teams with them. Building the relational intelligence that senior leadership increasingly demands.
Identity and transition
Navigating the genuine identity shifts required when moving to a significantly more senior role. The skills that produced success at one level are often insufficient at the next.
Resilience and sustainability
Leading in a way that is sustainable over the long term. Managing energy, maintaining perspective, and protecting the capacity to be present for the people and challenges that matter most.

Developing executive coaching competence

Working with senior and very senior leaders requires a distinct set of capabilities beyond general coaching competence. Building credibility with clients who are experienced, high-status, and used to being the most capable person in the room. Holding genuine challenge alongside partnership without losing the coaching relationship. Working confidently with strategic complexity and systemic challenges that go well beyond personal development.

TPC Coaching Academy develops these capabilities through two routes: the core professional qualification that underpins all effective coaching, and the specialist advanced pathway designed specifically for executive-level work.

Why TPC Leadership

30 years at the centre of the profession

TPC Leadership's roots go back to Sir John Whitmore, who brought coaching from elite sport into the boardroom and changed the profession. Our founder Charles Brook worked alongside Whitmore to develop the first Masters degree in coaching and helped build the evidence base that professional coaching is still measured against today. We worked with the EMCC to establish the accreditation framework that now underpins professional coaching across Europe.

That heritage is not a historical footnote. It shapes everything about how TPC Leadership develops coaches and works with leaders. Our faculty bring PhDs, decades of applied coaching, and direct experience of the environments coaches work in. What we teach has been developed through practice, not from a distance.

30+ Years developing leaders and coaches across sectors, geographies, and levels of seniority.
ICF and EMCC All core programmes accredited by the two globally recognised professional bodies for coaching.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about executive coaching

What is executive coaching? Executive coaching is a one-to-one professional development process that helps senior leaders develop their thinking, decision-making, self-awareness, and leadership effectiveness. It works at the level of how leaders think and show up, not just what they do. Executive coaching is most commonly commissioned by organisations for their senior leaders and high-potential professionals.
What qualifications do TPC coaches hold? TPC Leadership coaches hold ICF and EMCC accreditation, the two globally recognised professional standards for coaching. Many hold PCC or MCC credentials with the ICF and Senior Practitioner or Master Practitioner accreditation with the EMCC. All faculty bring substantial experience coaching at senior organisational levels.
What training does TPC offer for coaches who want to work at executive level? TPC Coaching Academy offers the Coaching Senior Leaders advanced pathway for practitioner-level coaches who want to develop the specific competencies for working with senior and very senior leaders. It is a two-day programme that develops confidence, presence, and credibility in high-stakes leadership coaching contexts. The Coach Practitioner programme provides the ICF and EMCC accredited foundation that underpins all professional coaching, including at executive level.
Can TPC support organisations commissioning executive coaching? Yes. TPC Leadership works with organisations to commission executive coaching for senior leaders, build internal coaching capability, and develop coaching cultures across leadership populations. Visit the corporate and group bookings page or book a call to discuss your organisation's requirements.
How long does an executive coaching programme last? Most executive coaching programmes run for six to twelve months, with sessions every two to four weeks. The right duration depends on what the leader is working on. Focused work on a specific transition or challenge may suit a shorter programme of three to six months. Deeper developmental work typically benefits from a longer engagement.
