A one-day coaching course for anyone who wants to find out what coaching is, how it works, and whether it is for them. No prior experience required. Continue to the full three-day programme at no extra cost.

About this course

Introduction to Coaching is a one-day course that gives you a practical, grounded understanding of what coaching is and how it works. It is the right starting point if you are new to coaching, curious about whether it suits you, or want to develop your skills before committing to a longer programme.

The day is hands-on. You will practise coaching conversations, learn the core skills, and leave with a clear sense of what coaching feels like in practice, not just in theory.

This course is day one of the Fundamentals of Coaching programme. If you decide to continue, days two and three are included at no extra cost, giving you the option to complete the full three-day programme and work toward the EMCC EQA Foundation certificate.

It is delivered by our expert coaching faculty >

What the day covers

The course introduces the foundations of coaching practice through a combination of explanation, demonstration, and practical exercises.

  1. What coaching is and how it works

Understand what coaching is, what it is not, and how it differs from managing, mentoring, and advising. Get a clear picture of where coaching adds value and how it works in practice.

  2. Active listening and questioning

Practise the two core skills of coaching. Learn how to listen with real attention and ask questions that help people think rather than questions that lead them to your answers.

  3. Structuring a coaching conversation

Learn how a coaching conversation is structured from start to finish. Understand how to open, how to deepen, and how to close in a way that leaves the person with clarity and next steps.

  4. Coaching in practice

Put the skills together in a real coaching conversation. You will coach and be coached during the day, getting direct experience of what it feels like from both sides.

Your next steps
